Monica Johnson O’Brien
Monica is a 2009 graduate of Monmouth University, where she started every game in her collegiate career. She was a 3 time All-NEC player and was named as the NEC All-Tournament Team goalie in her freshman, sophomore and junior year. Monica ranked nationally in save percentage. She earned the nation’s sixth best save percentage in her junior year (.513) and 7th best in her freshman year (.525). She was ranked 22nd nationally in goals against average with 9.78. During her sophomore year season, Monica recorded 209 saves, the second best effort in school history. Monica led her squad to 4 NEC playoff appearances and 2 NEC championship titles. In addition, Monica was placed on the NEC Academic Honor Roll in her sophomore, junior and senior year. Before Monmouth, Monica was a standout at Archbishop Carroll High School, where she was an All-Catholic First Team Honoree as both a junior and senior. She was also an All-Main Line and All-Delco honoree. Monica enjoys coaching Phantastix because she loves to work with young goalies and share her experiences with them. Monica knows the highs and lows of being a goalie, and knows what it’s like to step inside the crease on game day. She uses her knowledge to help mentor these athletes.
